原定有14支隊伍參賽的2011女排亞錦賽，其中土庫曼女排昨日在泰國曼谷轉機時，因訂不到來台灣的機票，在無計可施的情況下最後決定退出本屆女排亞錦賽，參賽隊伍減少一隊變成13隊。本賽事將是2011世界盃女排賽、2012世界女排大獎賽、2012倫敦奧運會外賽等三項大賽的資格賽。
根據AVC亞排聯官網顯示，本次女排亞錦賽的第一名(扣除日本後)將可獲得年底世界盃女排賽參賽權，第二名則需看該隊世界排名來決定是否有參賽權。
而扣掉中國跟日本之後的前兩名則可獲得2012世界女排大獎賽的參賽資格，扣掉中日後的第三名則需與非洲冠軍進行附加賽來爭取大獎賽資格。
最後，扣掉日本之後的前三名則可獲得明年五月底在日本舉行的2012倫敦奧運亞洲區兼世界區資格賽的參賽門票。

The Championship doubles as the qualification tournament for the World Cup and only top team from the championship, except Japan, will make the cut for the World Cup in Japan this November. As the top team is assured of a place in the Japan-hosted World Cup, the second-place finisher has to get their current world ranking compared with those finishing second in the other four continental tournaments to determine the teams eligible for the World Cup.
The teams are also to fight for their berths for next years Grand Prix. Japan and China already automatically enter 2011 Grand Prix with other 11 teams squaring off against each other for the other two Grand Prix tickets and the fifth finisher meeting a African team in the playoff matches.
Additionally, the 13 teams will also try their utmost to finish top three, except Japan so that they will stand a good chance to travel to Japan to participate in the Olympic Games qualification tournament slated to be held in Japan next May, where the top three finishers and the best Asian team will seal their places in the London Olympic Games.
